Amino acids

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Sports nutrition sells them singly or in blends: BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, valine), EAAs (all nine essential ones), glutamine, citrulline, arginine, beta-alanine, taurine and others.

Amino acids have no authorised effect claims in the EU, so we describe the contents and show grams per serving. If you already drink protein, remember it contains every amino acid. More on each is on the ingredient pages.

FAQ

How do BCAAs differ from EAAs?

BCAAs are three amino acids; EAAs are all nine essential ones, those three included.

Do I need amino acids if I drink protein?

Protein already contains every amino acid. Separate products are often taken as a drink during training.

Powder or capsules?

Powder is better value and comes flavoured; capsules are handy, but gram doses take many capsules.

When should amino acids be taken?

There is no fixed time; follow the pack's directions.

Are there sugar-free amino acids?

Most powders are sugar-free, with sweeteners. The ingredients are on the product card.
