Gainers & carbs
A gainer is a high-calorie mix of carbohydrate and protein: a serving often gives 400–1200 kcal. It is used when ordinary food makes it hard to reach the calories you need. Carbohydrate products — maltodextrin, dextrose, cyclic dextrin (Cluster Dextrin), oat flour — are almost pure carbohydrate.
Compare calories, protein and carbohydrate per serving and the serving size: gainers can be 100–300 g. A gainer is a food that adds to the diet, not a replacement for it.
