Gainers & carbs

A gainer is a high-calorie mix of carbohydrate and protein: a serving often gives 400–1200 kcal. It is used when ordinary food makes it hard to reach the calories you need. Carbohydrate products — maltodextrin, dextrose, cyclic dextrin (Cluster Dextrin), oat flour — are almost pure carbohydrate.

Compare calories, protein and carbohydrate per serving and the serving size: gainers can be 100–300 g. A gainer is a food that adds to the diet, not a replacement for it.

FAQ

How is a gainer different from protein?

A gainer is mostly carbohydrate with less protein; protein powder is the reverse.

How many calories in a serving?

Usually 400–1200 kcal, depending on the serving. See the product card.

Can I make the serving smaller?

Yes; scale the calories accordingly.

What is cyclic dextrin?

A carbohydrate from corn starch with a particular molecular structure, sold as a separate carb product.

Are there lactose-free gainers?

Most contain milk protein. Check the ingredients and the lactose-free filter.
