Whey protein

Whey protein is made from whey — the liquid left over when cheese is made. It is the most popular kind of protein: it mixes well, digests quickly and comes in dozens of flavours.

Concentrate holds 70–80 % protein and some lactose, isolate 85–90 % protein and almost no lactose, hydrolysate is partly broken down. Compare grams of protein per serving and the price of one serving: the catalogue cards have already worked them out.

FAQ

What is whey protein made from?

From whey, the liquid left over in cheese-making. It is filtered and dried into a powder.

Is whey protein suitable for lactose intolerance?

Isolate and hydrolysate hold very little lactose and suit many people. Concentrate holds more.

Water or milk?

Whichever suits you. Water means fewer calories and a thinner shake; milk makes it thicker and tastier but adds milk protein and lactose.

Why does protein foam?

Whey protein foams when shaken. Let the shake stand a minute or use a shaker with a mesh.

How long does an open tub keep?

Until the date on the pack, if the tub is kept tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
